What is nutrition counselling?
As humans, it can be hard to know what to eat let alone what to feed your pet. That’s where we come in. We can determine what your pet’s individual dietary needs are and how we can help meet them. We can learn about any key nutrients your pet might be lacking or if they have any allergies. Our goal is to ensure they have a balanced and nutritious diet and feeding schedule that works best for them keeping in mind their age, health status and breed. To know how we can best support your pet, please come prepared to answer questions about their current diet, eating habits, and lifestyle.
Can I feed my pet home-cooked meals?
It’s important to make sure your pet is getting all the nutrients they need to maintain their health. Home-cooked meals are a great way to feed your pet IF they are done properly; that is with a veterinary nutritionist approved recipes and supplements. Our staff has some great resources to share with you if you are interested in going with the homemade route. Be aware that some human foods can be dangerous and cause health problems for your pet such as:
- Garlic and onions
- Chocolate and caffeine
- Milk and dairy products
- Raw meat, fish and eggs
- Grapes and raisins
