How do I know if my pet has dental issues?

Regularly brushing your pet’s teeth can be a great way to check for any dental issues your pet may be experiencing. Without taking a closer look, the first indication of poor oral hygiene may be the smell of their breath. Some of the most common signs of dental issues to look for in both dogs and cats are difficulty chewing, swollen gums, loose teeth, bleeding, or bumps in their mouth. If you notice any dental changes in your pet, call us to book an appointment and we’ll schedule you in to see one of our veterinarians.

What can I do at home to improve my pet’s dental health?

It can be hard to take care of your pet’s teeth alone. When you’re not bringing them in for their annual checkup, simple steps you can take to keep their teeth and gums healthy are:

  • Brushing their teeth daily
  • Using pet-specific toothpaste and toothbrushes
  • Giving them healthy treats and chew toys to avoid build-up
  • Schedule regular dental cleaning appointments
